As most of you are aware, earlier this year, the Chhattisgarh Tourism Board (CTB) along with Cycle Safari, had organized ‘Tour De Chhattisgarh’ with an aim to introduce the concept of bicycle tourism and leisure cycling in India.
This four -day cycling event from Raipur to Tirathgarh was an absolute delight and a stress buster for not just the cyclists, but even for those who accompanied them (family).
After a very successful tour in January 2018, Tour de Chhattisgarh is back again.
But a little differently! Unlike the last one, this tour will be taking you to the North and will involve a lot of climbing. It will also be slightly longer and challenging than the last one.
Check out details below:-
Start Point: Raipur
End Point: Mainpat
Daily Mileage: 60-200 KMs
Total Mileage: 500 KMs (Approx)
Total Elevation: 6500 Meters (Approx)
Let’s get into some detailing of the Tour De Chhattisgarh (Hills edition).
Day 1 – Saroda Dadar
Via Kawardha & Chilpi Ghati [Wednesday, August 15, 2018]
While the majority of India will be celebrating Independence Day, you will be cycling through mountains and forest soaking in the serene weather. Besides, you will also be getting a chance to get close to the Baiga Tribals.
The Baiga are an ethnic group found in central India, primarily in the states of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand. For quite a few decades, the Baigas were discriminated against and often evicted from forest areas by government agencies. But things now are changing.
Recently, the government of Madhya Pradesh told the villagers they are free to access all their ancestral rights over land and forests. With the Tour having a stop over on day one, you will get to know about their Austroasiatic language, shifting cultivation and tattooing traditions as well.
Day 2 – Kabir Chabutara
Adjacent to Amarkantak in MP [Thursday, August 16, 2018]
Love riding on country roads? Day 2 all bring in some more excitement. Besides taking you through never ending long stretches of road, and an uphill finish, we will also spend a day at Kabir Chabutara (The platform of saint Kabir). It is said that Sant Kabir had meditated at this place and achieved attainment (सिद्धि) here.
It is the meeting point of three districts, Anuppur and Dindori districts of Madhya Pradesh and Bilaspur district of Chhatisgarh. There are many tourist who visit this holy place to experience the miraculous appearance of milk in the water pond (called Kabir Kund) here.
