The scott speedster 50!
Scott’s most basic entry level road bike ever!
In this blog, we are going to find out whether the bicycle is worth 50 grand! Or not!
Weighing around 11 kgs, the scott speedster 50 roadbike comes with an alloy frame, alloy fork and shimano tourney 7 speed groupset.
On first look, the overall bicycle looks fabulous. Besides, Scott has left no room when it comes to providing quality alloy parts from its sister company – syncros!
Rim brakes from tektro and schwalbe lugano tyres add more value to the overall bicycle build and performance!
Needless to say, the alloy seat post, handle and stem are powered by syncros!
Scott being popular in India is available in three frame sizes, the small, medium and large size!
And guess what! Internal cabling all the way!
What more could you ask for?
We took the bike for a spin and we were impressed by the endurance geometry! The 50 felt pretty good for the price we paid!
Won’t argue on that!
The ride was smooth and we could not believe the shifting of the shimano tourney!
The tourney comes with a 11-34 cassette and a 50-34 chainring in the front. In our opinion, the ratio seems to be perfectly fine for beginners looking for general road riding.
On our ride, the gear shifting felt amazingly smooth, however, we were not quite happy with the levers.
If you are riding on the drops, changing the gears will be a huge problem! The buttons are just way too far.
In this case, we would prefer a shimano claris groupset! One level up that comes with paddles allowing you to shift gears with ease on the drops!
This would be a total game changer!
Nonetheless, another important pointer is that with shimano tourney you don’t have to worry much about maintaining the groupset every now and then.
So do you think a 7 speed groupset would be an issue on hills?
Honestly speaking on average hills and keeping beginners in mind, this gear ratio seemed fine. Not to forget the 2 chainrings in the front!
But if you are looking to race or climb, the 2×7 ratio might not be enough!
What do we think about rim brakes?
Disc brakes are getting so common on roadbikes! However, the scott speedster 50 comes with rim brakes! We were more than happy to have the tektro rim brakes instead of low end mechanical disc brakes!
Rim brakes help keep the weight down too and who would want to ride cheaper mechanical disc brakes?
So is the speedster 50 worth the 50 grand?
I would say, yes!
No offense!
Compared to the other low end bicycles by btwin and other brands!
This speedster actually feels like a roadbike!
In todays’ times, the bicycle performance, technology and other factors overall make the bicycle worth the price!
Also, the bicycle is durable, feels safe to ride and will surely last long!
